Dale E. Cornish, age 56, of Granger passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with ALS. He was born October 2, 1960 to Dale and Wanda (Powell) Cornish in South Bend, Indiana. He married the love of his life, Leigh Ann Earnhart, May 7th, 1988 in Elkhart, Indiana. Dale served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1979-1983. He was a graduate of Elkhart Memorial and Indiana University of South Bend. He retired after 28 years with his last post as Postmaster of the Bremen Post Office. Dale was a devoted husband and father. He loved trips to Fort Myers beach and Turkey Run State park. Dale was a 3rd degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. He instructed many students through the years. He participated in volleyball leagues and served as an Elkhart Police reservist. Dale is survived by his wife, Leigh; his children, Andrew Cornish of Edwardsburg and Kristen (Joshua) Rajski of Osceola; his mother, Wanda Thurner of Hebron, IN; his sisters, DeeDee (Gary) McAllister, Darlene (Patrick) Ballard, Jami (Dave) Bradshaw, and Shannon (Ron) Kirker; his step-sisters Cindy (John) Anderson, Carla (Frank) Isla and step-brother Robert (Pam) Thurner. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale, and step-father, Robert Thurner. Family and friends will be received on Friday, December 23, 2016 from 3-7 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. There will be a funeral service in Mr. Cornish?s honor Saturday, December 24, 2016 at 10 AM at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank the VA ALS Clinic staff in Indianapolis for their kindness and support.
