Cameron Patchin Wells
Birth: Sep. 9, 1850
Steuben County
New York, USA
Death: Apr. 17, 1901
Rochester
Olmsted County
Minnesota, USA
Cameron P. Wells was a blacksmith in LeRoy, Minnesota. He was kicked in the head by a "renegade" horse. He was fine at first but his condition deteriorated to the point of a semicoma. His brothers George and Ferd took him in a wagon to Rochester. The Drs. there attempted to drain an abcess that had formed in the brain. It was unsuccessful and he passed away there probably from sepsis. The source for this information was the LeRoy Independent.
Obituary:
Died at St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, at 7:30PM Wednesday, C.P. Wells aged 50 years, seven months. Mr. Wells was kicked in the head by his horse some weeks ago. At first hopes were entertained that he would recover but he gradually failed and about April 12th he was taken to the Rochester hospital and an operation was performed but all to no avail. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Friday at 2:30 PM , Rev. Rumsey officiating. Interment at Chester, Iowa. There was a beautiful floral display and a large funeral. He was married in 1870 to Miss Eva L. Clark of Chester, Iowa. He leaves a wife and seven children, one son and six daughters, a mother, four brothers, and six sisters and other relatives and friends to mourn his untimely loss. Mr. Wells was born in NY in September, 1850. When one year old his parents moved to Illinois where they resided for six years, removing then to Howard Co. Iowa, where he remained 27 years. About 15 years ago he came to LeRoy and engaged in the blacksmith business until his death. We extend the relatives our sympathy.
Additional information: Cameron was probably named after Dr. Cameron Patchin whose grandfather was an early settler of Wayland Township, N.Y. Dr. Patchin was a colleague of Cam's grandfather Dr. F.H. Blakely.
