Portland Walter Bayley Dies; Portland Foundry Chief
PORTLAND (Special) -- Walter C. Bayley, 74, of 423 Main St., died at his home Thursday after a long illness. He was manager for many years of the Portland Foundry, a subsidiary of the Baird Machine Co. and during his period with the company the firm worked on parts for the ship with which Admiral Byrd travelled (sic) to the poles.
He was born in New York City and was a member of the Portland Methodist Church.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Selma Swan Bayley; two sons, Walter C. Bayley Jr. of Antioch Calif, and Thomas A. Bayley of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Donald O'Connor of Barrington, Ill.; "two brothers, James I. Bayley and Richard Bayley of Middletown and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert L. French will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends are asked to omit flowers. The Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St. is in charge of arrangements.
