Thomas A. Bayley
Thomas A. Bayley, 78, of 1813 Carlton Drive, Lebanon, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at home. He was the husband of Sharon L. Claar Bayley and the late Betty Church Dahlquist Bayley, who died Jan. 19, 1974.
Born in Portland, Conn., he was a son of the late Walter C. and Selma Svahn (sic) Bayley. In 1943, he graduated from Portland High School, then joined the Army. He served with the 95th Infantry Division, 377th Regiment in Europe during World War II. He was wounded in Soest, Germany, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also received a bronze star and three battle stars.
After the war, he graduated from Syracuse University and found employment in the fertilizer industry. He was a production and sales manager for American Agricultural Chemical Co.; Agrico Chemical, a subsidiary of Conoco Oil; and Williams Companies, holding positions in many plants around the country and Canada.
In 1973, he joined Lebanon Chemical Co., where he held administration and sales positions until his retirement in 1990. He then became an independent sales agent and consultant to the fertilizer industry, working on projects in the United States and overseas with the International Fertilizer Development Center, International Executive Service Corp., and many domestic companies. His work took him to Costa Rica, Venezuela, Zambia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
He worshiped as a Christian.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons David Bayley of Longmeadow, Maine, Peter Bayley of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Jonathan Bayley of Ewing, N.J.; daughter Diane, wife of Ellis Etter of Fort Myers, Fla.; sister Ruth Ann O'Connor of Port Charlotte, Fla.; brother Walter Bayley of Davis, Calif.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the Rohland Funeral Home, 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon, preceded by a visitation beginning at 5.
