      Alma V. Sackett

      LAYTON -- Alma Vernon Sackett, 79, of 1200 N. Church, died Monday, Dec. 30, 1985, at St. Benedict's Hospital in Ogden of causes incident to age.

      He was born Dec. 12, 1906, in Randlette, Utah, a son of Edward W. and Edith Amelia Powell Sackett.

      He married Rachel Knudsen July 23, 1935, in Kamas. The marriage was later solemized (sic) in the Ogden LDS Temple.

      He retired in 1961 from Hill Air Force Base as a heavy equipment supervisor. He had also worked for the Forest Service, building the first road from Kamas to Mirror Lake. He also worked for the Soil Conservation District, and had operated his own earth moving business.

      He resided most of his life in Utah, the last 31 years in Layton.

      He was a member of the Layton 17thr LDS Ward.

      He was past director of Davis County Wildlife Federation and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

      Surviving are his widow of Layton, two sons and three daughters, H. Lavell Sackett, Syracuse; Ken V. Sackett, Jean Green, and Julie Rowe, all of Layton; Velma Swift, Sapulpa, Okla.; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

      Also surviving are three half-brothers and one half-sister, Roy Sackett, Pahrump, Nev.; Lawrence Sackett, Millville, Ca.; Earnest Sackett, Michigan; Evelyn B. Dreyer, Riverton, Utah.

      Funeral services were held at Lindquists Layton Mortuary, 1074 N. Fairfield, with Bishop Phillip Eckersley officiating.

      Interment in the Kaysville City Cemetery.

      Joseph Lawrence Swift, 31, 1138 Gurard Ave., died Nov. 14, 1967, 6:30 p.m. in Boise, Idaho of a heart attack.

      Born Dec. 13, 1825, Salt Lake City, a son of Joseph Hyrum and Saidy Lawrence Swift. Married Marilyn Atwood, October 1947, Farmington. Later divorced. Married Velma Clara Sackett, Nov. 13, 1955, Elko, Nev. Veteran, World War II. Employe, Burkhard-Berger Cabinet Makers.

      Survivors: widow, sons, daughters, Danny, Ricky, Joe, Lynda, Diana, all Salt Lake City; stepson, Alan Harrison, mother, both Salt Lake City; brother, John A. Bart, Caliente, Nev.

      Funeral Monday 2 p.m., 260 E. South Temple, where friends may Call Sunday, 6-8 p.m, and Monday before services.

      Velma C. 'Granny' Swift

      Velma C. 'Granny' Swift of the Kiefer and Mounds area died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at St. John's Medical Center, Tulsa.

      She was born May 14, 1931 in Airpine, Ariz. She had been a Sapulpa resident for the past 25 years.

      Survivors are her mother, Rachel Knudson Sackettl her children, a son Alan Harrison and Blanche, of Utah, a daughter Diana Swift, of Mounds and a son, Joe Swift and Jeanie of Kiefer; two brothers, Lavell Sackett, his wife, Donna, and Ken Sackett, his wife, Sharon; two sisters, Jean Green and her husband, Dewane, and Julie Rowe and her husband, Doug, all of Utah.

      She was preceded in death by her father, Alma Sackett, and her husband, Joseph L. Swift.

      She also is survived by her stepchildren Danny Swift of Maryland, Lynda Jenson of Utah and Rick Swiff of Texas.

      She was blessed with l0 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, seven stepgrandchtldren and-six step-great-great-grandchildren (sic). Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will be in Green Hill Memorial Gardens under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

      Pallbearers will be Joey Swift, John Swift, Shane Swift, Justin Duke, Dusty Gillette and Johnny McDonald.

      Honorary Pallbearers are Alan Harrison and Jacob Davis.

      The family will headquarter at the Joe Swift residence, at 3I7 B Street, in Kiefer.
