Eldon Rhoads
Eldon B. Rhoads, 71, of Madison, Ill., born March 11, 1930, in Jerseyville, Ill., died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Granite City, Ill.
Mr. Rhoads was a maintenance engineer for Madison Public School District 12 for 29 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Madison Volunteer Fire Department from 1953 until retiring in 1967, holding the rank of chief. He was an associate member of the Madison Amvets Post 204 and a former Madison Police commissioner.
Mr. Rhoads was preceded in death by his parents, John Frank and Pauline Sarah, nee Sackett, Rhoads, five sisters, Mary Stawar, Pauline Burns, Julia Voloski, Martha Strain and Tresa Rhoads; and a brother, William Rhoads.
Surviving are his wife, DeLoyce, nee Bosworth, Rhoads, whom he married Aug. 28, 1948, in Pocahontas, Ark.; two daughters, Donna Fouts of Madison, Ill., and Deborah (James) Dillon of Town & Country, Mo.; a brother, Charles (Anna Mae) Rhoads of Granite City, Ill; three grandchildren, Michael DeYoung, Andrea Luffman and Jennifer Fouts; and four great-grandchildren, Cole DeYoung, Alec DeYoung, Sarah Luffman and Morgan Jackson.
Memorials may be made to the Madison Volunteer Fire Department.
Visitation: Private family visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Thomas Saksa Funeral Home, Granite Vity, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Thomas Saksa FUneral Home, Granite City, Ill., with the Rev. James Lybarger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Edwardsville, Ill.
