      Verna Louise Jones
      July 29, 1923 - July 28, 2010

Lived 87 loving years, and claimed she lived in the Best of Times! In spite of living through the Great Depression, four wars and three children!

Born to Melvin C. Greenwood and Carrie E. (Burrows) Greenwood on July 29, 1923 in Hugoton, Kansas, Verna passed away on July 28, 2010, leaving behind her husband of 69 years, Ed (Chicken) Jones and her children, Eddie Jones, Norma Jean (Tim) Silkey and Jane (Robert) Clevinger of Grand Junction; grandchildren, Gayla (Robert) Smith of Watertown, New York; Rachel (Chris) Philliou, Billie Lenzi, Tom Rose, Scot (Traci) Allen, Paul (Laurie) Allen, and Amanda Clevinger, of Grand Junction, and Kristopher (Kim) Allen of Colorado Springs, CO; 16 great grandchildren and her brother, Kenneth (Midge) Greenwood of Hugoton, Kansas.

She married Ed Jones on May 31, 1941 in Liberal, Kansas. She worked alongside her husband in farming and construction in Kansas, before moving to Grand Junction in 1958, where they opened the Finger Lickin'Chicken Restaurant, later named the Ranch House Restaurant in what is now the Landmark Building.

She and Ed enjoyed rock hounding and were avid members of the Grand Junction Gem Mineral Club and displayed their collection of specimens, crystals, polished stones and jewelry at the annual Gem Mineral Show. Over the years, they acquired a large rock and gem collection. Some items are currently on loan for display at the Gem Mineral Club of Grand Junction. Verna also enjoyed silversmithing and created beautiful jewelry from the stones she collected, then cut and polished. Favorite rock hunting areas were Quartzite AZ, where they wintered for years making many friends, Black Ridge, the Dewey Bridge area and Rabbit Valley, although they rock hounded in every state in the Western U.S.

She loved life and adored her pets, being outdoors, close to nature, rock hunting and jewelry making.

In lieu of flowers it is being requested that donations be made to Roice-Hurst Animal Shelter at 3320 D 1/2 Rd Grand Junction, CO 81504 or Hospice Palliative Center of Western Colorado at 3090B North 12th Ave. Grand Junction, CO 81506.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be greatly missed as a wonderful wife, mother and friend.
