IN MEMORIAM
Lily May Pogue was born August 11th, 1868, in Fletcher, Ohio, and died at her home in Gresham, Nebr., March 23rd, 1943.
She was united in marriage to William Ulysses Barbee, January 20th, 1886, who preceded her in death, December 23rd, 1920, as did three of the twelve children born to this marriage, Belle, May 6th, 1912; Benne, Dec. 10th, 1917; and Irma, June 5th, 1933.
The following children survive: Dr. James Barbee of Sutton, Nebr.; George Barbee and Mrs. Nina Bond of Gresham, Nebr.; Ellis Barbee of Eugene, Oregon; Walter Barbee of Gibsonburg, Ohio; Wesley Barbee of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Irene Brandt of Loretto, Nebr.; John Barbee of Lynwood, Calif.; and Keith Barbee of Lusk, Wyo., also 19 grandchildren besides one brother, W. B. Pogue, Gresham, Nebr.; and three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Ruddock, Gresham, Nebr.; Mrs. Wm. Ross, Ponoka, Canada and Mrs. T. E. Grafit, Orange, Calif.
Mrs. Barbee came with her parents to Iowa and later to Nebraska when she was a small child. This was in the days when Indian scares were prevelent (sic) and she knew real hardships during the drouth (sic) years. The first few years of her marriage were spent on a homestead in western Nebraska in a sod shanty where the hardships were equally great.
During World War I four of her sons were in the country's service.
She was an ideal mother and with her large family, to whom she was devoted, yet found time for painting, extensive reading, exquisite handwork, and all the finer things of life.
She was a conscientious christian (sic) and loyal to the church of which she was a faithful member. She retained her membership in the Albion Methodist church where she lived at the time of her husband's death. Her friends were numbered only by her acquaintances and the neighborhood truly mourns her passing.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Gresham on Friday afternoon, March 26, with Rev B. N. Kunkel in charge. Interment in Albion Cemetery.
I cannot say, and I will not say
That she is dead. She is just away!

OBITUARY - William Barbee passed away at his home south of Albion at 3:45 o'clock Thursday morning, December 23rd. He was taken sick in October and since early in November was confined to the house, his ailment being cancer of the stomach.
William Barbee was born in Galesburg, Illinois, October 16th, 1864, and grew to manhood there. When eighteen years of age he came to Ulysses, Nebraska, and January 20, 1886, was united in marriage to Lilly May Payne. Soon after their marriage they moved to Julesburg, Colorado where they resided for about five years. They moved from Julesburg to Gresham, Nebraska, where they lived until the spring of 1918, when they moved to this county, locating on what is known as the Kurth farm south of Albion.
To this union were born twelve children, eight boys and four girls. The oldest child, Belle Barbee departed this life at York, Nebraska, in 1912, and one son, Ben Barbee, died while in training at Camp Funston, in December, 1917.
In the year 1915, Mr. Barbee united with the Methodist church at Gresham and on coming to this community transferred his membership to the Albion Methodist church, remaining a faithful member until death claimed him.
