Horton [Reynolds], the second son of Gideon, the son of James, b. about 1734, was a sargeant in the Revolutionary army, wounded in the battle of White Plains. Admitted to the Second Society of Greenwich, June 8, 1774, died leaving will executed Aug. 23, 1796, proved at Stamford, May 2, 1797. He m. Lydia, dau. of Caleb Knapp and Clemence Mills, who survived him and had: 1. Horton, d. before 1815, his widow Abigail survived him and afterwards m. Shadrach Mead, who was administrator of his estate. At the time of his death his children were infants, i. e. : 1. James H. 2. Abigail J. 3. Emeline. 4. John J.

251. SERGEANT HORTON REYNOLDS: (Gideon^4; James^3; John^2; John^1) b. Greenwich, Conn., about 1734; d. there 1797, "second son" of Gideon, who so mentions him. He m. Lydia Knapp, before Oct. 28, 1762, when her father mentioned her in his will as Lydia Reynolds. She is also named in will of Sarah, widow of Capt. Jabez Mead, as "my niece,["] June 28, 1786. She was dau. Caleb & Clemence (Mills) Knapp. She survived Horton, for his will dated Aug. 23, 1796, proved May 2, 1797, mentions her. His brother Ambrose executor. He joined the Congregational Church, Greenwich, June 8, 1774; also he and wife on church records again Oct. 18, 1786.
He was in the Revolution: "Corporal, Capt. Joseph Hobby's Co. of the Ninth Conn. Militia under General Wooster, 1776-7. Discharged Jany. 11, 1777. In November 1776 this Regiment, having just returned from New York, was ordered to the Westchester border, after the Battle of White Plains." Horton became a sergeant and "was wounded in the Battle of White Plains." In the Census of 1790, he is given as of Greenwich, 1 son over 16; 2 under 16; wife and 3 daughters. His home was always in Greenwich. He was also in the French and Indian War, 1757, from Fairfield Co., Conn.
