      SCOTTSBLUFF ? Arthur R. Kissack, 65, of Scottsbluff, died at his home on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009. His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Brad Gustafson officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Memorials have been established to the Art Kissack Scholarship Fund or to Prairie Haven Hospice.       Art was born Sept. 25, 1943 in Scottsbluff to Allen Frances and Evelyn (Hanna) Kissack. He received his education in Scottsbluff and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1961.

      He was recruited to play football at the University of Wyoming by Bob Devaney. He received his B.S. Degree from the University of Wyoming in 1966 and a M.A. Degree in Microbiology in 1970 from Colorado State University. He also received graduate hours from Azusa Pacific College, University of Wyoming and Chadron State College. He received certification as a National Strength Coach from 1994-2003, being one of few certified strength coaches in the state of Nebraska.

      Art married Donna Scott on June 28, 1962 in Scottsbluff. He taught Biology, Advanced Biology, Physical Education, Psychology and Earth Science during his teaching career. He taught and coached at Fort Collins High 1966-70, Cheyenne East 1970-78, Ogallala 1978-82 and Gering High 1982-2004. Art was an adjunct professor at WNCC at the time of his death.

      Art's coaching career included being an undergraduate football assistant at the University of Wyoming in1965, an assistant football and track coach at Fort Collins High in1966-69, and a head football and assistant track and wrestling coach at Cheyenne East High in1970-78. His Cheyenne East football teams won Conference and State Football Championships in1970 and 1974. He was selected Wyoming High School Football Coach of the Year in 1974. From 1978-82 he was the head football, assistant track and wrestling coach at Ogallala High School. His 1981 OHS football team was the Southwest Conference Champion in 1981.

      Art finished his coaching career at Gering High School. He was the head football and assistant track and wrestling coach from 1982-93. His Gering Bulldog football teams were Western Conference and District Champions in 1986, 1989, and 1990. He assisted in football and track from 1998-2003. He loved motivating athletes in the weight room and was the strength coach at Gering High from 1982-2003. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching the game of football and was honored to be asked to coach the Pounders semi pro football team.

      He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was an ordained Elder and Deacon. Art loved bicycling and participated in the BRAN (Bike Ride Across Nebraska) for five years. He enjoyed scuba diving, camping, hiking, and spending time with his family. Art would always share his wealth of knowledge about plants whenever he went walking or camping with others. He loved watching students excel as learners and was thrilled to be asked to be a judge at several speech meets.

      He was a certified Red Cross instructor and was a strong supporter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes which he was active in during his early coaching years. Art did "color" for KNEB broadcasts of Gering Bulldog Football.

      He is survived by his wife: Donna; daughter: Julie (Kevin) Armstrong of Grand Island, Neb.; son: Shaun (Cathy) Kissack of Kingman, Ariz.; grandchildren: Allen and Jessica Kissack of Kingman, Amy Armstrong of Lincoln, Neb. and Chris (Whitney) Armstrong of Wood River, Neb.; "adopted" son: Dan (Karen) Crawford of Omaha; and brother: Clayton (Faith) Smith of Hot Springs Village, Ark.

      Art was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Merilyn Prouty; and brother: Ron Kissack.
