      Kent U. Moore

      DORSET -- Kent Underhill Moore, 91, died Jan. 10, 2006, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

      He was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Madison, Wis., the son of William Underhill Moore and Henelia (Wilhelm).

      He attended secondary school at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut He received his A.B. in English literature from Yale College in 1937, his A.M. in philosophy from Columbia University in 1941 and his B.S. in library science from Columbia University in 1942.

      Mr. Moore married Charlotte Russell on June 26, 1941. She predeceased him in 1997.

      He joined the U.S. Army where he served in New Guinea and earned the rank of staff sergeant until 1945.

      He worked at Kenyon College Library, Ohio, as head cataloger for six years. He then served as head of the cataloging department at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale for 22 years, retiring in 1974. After a brief time as a catalog librarian at UVM, he served as head librarian at the Mark Skinner library in Manchester for five years. He was a contributing writer of fiction and satire to the Vermont News Guide for many years.

      Mr. Moore enjoyed gardening, walking, tennis, rare books, jazz and classical music.

      Survivors include two sons, Kent Moore of Pawlet and Peter Moore of Dorset.

      At the families' request, there will be no formal funeral services.

      Arrangements are under the direction of the Brewster Funeral Service, Manchester Center.

      Charlotte Moore

      DORSET -- Charlotte Moore, 83, a resident of Dorset, died at her home on Lower Hollow Road Saturday, July 19.

      She was born July 10, 1914, in New Haven, Conn., daughter of Walter and Lilly (Wolf) Russell.

      She attended New Haven schools, the Hopkins Grammar School and Smith College. She married Kent Moore in 1942 at St. Thomas Church in New Haven.

      Mrs. Moore worked as an English teacher and tutor. She worked many years for the Wallingford English Language Center and as a tutor in the Northshire area.

      She was certified to teach special education in Vermont. She was a member of both the Manchester Garden Club and the Business and Professional Woman's Association.

      She is survived by her husband, Kent, and her two sons, Peter Underhill Moore of Dorset and Kent Russell Moore of Pawlet.

      There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester. The Rev. John Mitchell, pastor, will officiate. Cremation will take place at Vermont Cremation Service in Bennington.

      For those who desire, memorial gifts may be made to the Dorset Nursing Association in care of Brewster Funeral Service, P.O. Box 885, Manchester Center, Vt. 05255.
