      Ellen Jean Cooper, 72, of Brighton died July 19 at home.

      She was born April 23, 1916, in Farmington, a daughter of John Henry and Bertha (Cox) Young. She married Marshall Cooper Feb. 20, 1937, in Brighton.

      Mrs. Cooper was a member of the Brighton Christian Church, the Pleasant Valley Social Club, the Girl Scouts, the T.A.G.S. of the Brighton Area Schools and the former Michigan Chapter 314 Order of the Eastern Star of Brighton.

      During the years her husband [was] the mayor of Brighton, Mrs. Cooper acted as the official Hostess for the City during Michigan Week. She was also a member of the Brighton Senior Citizens.

      In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and his wife, Dale and Patty Cooper; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Dan Latta, all of Brighton; eight grandchildren; a sister, Lois Bird of Howell; several nieces and nephews; She was proceeded in death by two sons, Marshall Jr. and Ronald.

      Funeral services were Jury 22 at Brighton Christian Church; the Rev. David P. McFadden and the Rev. Rick A. Yarbrougb officiated. Burial tu in Fairview Cemetery, Brighton.

      Memorial contributions in Mrs. Cooper's name may be made to the Brighton Christian Church. Envelopes are available at the Keehn Funeral Home, Brighton.
