James L. Thompson, 79
James L. "Jim" Thompson, 79, of 304 Westview Circle, WL, died at 6:01 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Mr. Thompson retired in 1978 from Eli Lily and Co. in Lafayette, where he worked for 37 years as department head of purchasing.
Born Feb. 16, 1922, in Indianapolis, he moved to Lafayette in 1953, when the Eli Lily plant was being built.
Mr. Thompson was a member and deacon of Central Presbyterian Church, a 50-year Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine in Indianapolis and was active in many organizations including the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Tippecanoe Historical Association and Central Presbyterian Church Foundation.
He was past president of Friendship House Inc. and president of Purchasing Management Association of Lafayette, the Greater Lafayette Traffic Club and Castle Ridge Homeowners Association.
He married Joan "Jody" Lanman on Sept. 15, 1942, in Indianapolis.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Mark (wife: Pam) and David (wife: Rene) of Lafayette, and a daughter, Amy Bucher (husband: Richard) of Clinton, Mass.
