Pr. Dickinson Couple Die of Asphyxiation

The article describes how Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Blake of 7 1/2 Riverview Road died in a campground near Watkins Glen. They had taken a charcoal burner into their van for the night. Their five children who had been sleeping in a tent discovered them dead the next morning.

"Mr. Blake, a modelmaker at IBM-Endicott was a member of the race communications team and was to be a flgaman at the Canadian-American road race at Watkins Glen yesterday afternoon, according to his brother-in-law, Charles Sackett, Jr."

"The Blakes have a total of eight children from previous marriages. Mrs. Blake was 35 years old."

"With them in Watkins Glen were Daniel Blake, 16, Nancy Bowman, 13, David Bowman, 12, Faith Ann Bowman, 10, and Mark Bowman, 8.

Linda Blake, 19, Linda Bowman, 17, and Penny Blake, 13, are the other three children. They were not with their parents in Watkins Glen, Mr. Sackett said."

      . . .

The children were assisted by other campers and were returned to Binghamton last night by Richard D. Bowman, father of the Bowman children and the first husband of Mrs. Blake, Mr. Sackett said."

      . . .

"Other survivors include Mr. Blake's mother, Mrs. Mildred Ellis of Vestal; his sister, Mrs. Marion Schaffer of Binghamton; two brothers, David Blake of New York City and Larry Blake of Colorado."

"Mrs. Blake's survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sackett of Binhamton; three brothers, Charles H. Sackett, Jr., of Port Crane, Floyd W. Sackett of Binghamton and Howard E. Sackett of Edicott; a sister, Mrs. Velma L. Brown of Hillcrest.
