Calvin S. Miller spent his youth with his parents, was educated in the district schools, and, after finishing his studies, engaged in farming. His first work on an independent basis was working by the month in the employ of the neighboring farmers. In 1856 he moved from Vermont to Southwick, Mass., where he took charge of a farm owned by S.
