DEPOSITION B
Case of Esther Sackett (dec'd) No. 16441
On this 1st day of August, 1887 at
Greene, County of Chenango,
State of New York, before me, John Frelinghupen, a
Special Examiner of the Pension Office, personally appeared Mrs. Phoebe E.
Smith, who, being by me first duly sworn to answer
truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this Special Examination of afore'
said pension claim, deposes and says: My age is 53 past: occupation
housekeeper, P.O. address is this place.
I knew Esther Sackett, who was a pensioner of
the War of 1812. I am a daughter of hers.
And also a daughter of the decd Soldier whose
name was Oliver Sackett. & I often heard him
speak of being in the War of 1812. & I know that
he got a land Warrant on his discharge that
is since I can remember.
Esther Sackett the pensioner died June 12, 1887
I was present when she died --
She was the widow of Oliver Sackett & as such drew a pension ot the War of 1812.
She left no property either personal or real to
pay the expenses of her last sickness & burial
but the children will pay the expenses. She
received her check & drew her money for the last
quarter of June 4, 1887.
I have understood the questions & my answers
have been correctly recorded in this deposition.
Phebe E. Smith
