  • Notes
    • Westfield Town Records:
      ADNAH SACKET, b. December 05, 1745 [A:221].
      ------
      of Westfield, Mass.

He was an active participant in the War of the Revolution, and on Apr. 22, 1776, was commissioned First Lieut. of Capt. Daniel Sackett's Company of the Third Hampshire Co., Mass., Regiment, commanded by Col. John Moseley. A monument erected to his memory is yet standing in the historic but sadly neglected burial ground near Mechanic Street in Westfield, Mass. His wife, Jerusha Pomeroy, was the daughter of Lieut. Daniel Pomeroy and Rachel Mosely, of Northampton, Mass. Lieut. Daniel Pomeroy was slain at the battle of Lake George, Sept. 8, 1755. He was a brother of General Seth Pomeroy, who had an early command in the Patriot army and signalized himself by heroic service at the Battle of Bunker Hill, and on other fields of the Revolution. (See; Irving's Life of Washington.) [Weygant, p. 103-104]
      ------
      From Fred Sackett:
      d. age 65 of fever (ch records) Rev.Soilder 1776 Capt. Daniel Sacket's co. 3d. Hampshire regt., kept a hotel where New Park Square is in 1919; a horse dealer; "a man of great energy; had a large barn built within a week after the timber was cut."

April 28, 1813, Westfield, son of Isaac Sackett and Elizabeth Shepard; he was First-Lieut. of 7th company, 3d Hampshire regt., (Lt.-Col. An order dated Feb. 21, 1777, signed by Henry Gardner, Treas. of the State of Mass. Bay, orders Adnah Sackett, as constable or collector of Westfield to collect taxes in the amount of 239 pounds, 18 shillings before the 1st of May. He owned a large farm, and took horses to Hartford and sold them. The Park Square in Westfield is now the ground where he kept his Green Inn, the location having, previous to him filling it up, been a frog-pond. His grandchildren called him Captain, and it is probable that he was in the Revolution in later campaigns than that of the spring of 1776, when he was chosen First Lieutenant.
