Daughter of Pioneer Rancher, Mrs. Rachel Couch Ford, Dies
Mrs. Rachel Couch Ford, 70, 401 4th Ave. N., mother of Mrs. Charles A. Bovey, died Saturday afternoon at her home following a brief illness. Funeral arrangements are pending at the George Co.
Mrs. Ford was born in Utah in 1886. As a child she came to the Great Falls area with her father, Capt. Thomas Couch, a pioneer Vaughn rancher. Several years later, her father took her to California where he was associated with gold dredging activities in the Feather River region.
The captain was also supervisor for the Boston-Montana corporation mines at Butte. This firm was a forerunner of the present Anaconda Co.
Mrs. Ford returned to Great Falls in 1907 and had lived here since that time. She was married to Lee M. Ford until 1930.
Active in musical circles here for many years, she was a past president of the Tuesday Musical Club.
Survivors include her daughter married to Senator Bovey; four brothers, John, Albert and Edward G. Couch, all of Palo Alto, Calif. and Fred Couch of Sun River, and a grandson who resides at Great Falls.
