Dr. Walter F. Hume
WATERBURY,--News has been received here of the death of Dr. Walter F. Hume, on July 31.
Dr. Hume was well known to many residents here, having married the former Miss Florence Morse, daughter of the late Attorney and Mrs. George Morse who at one time lived in what is now the residence of Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Wright and later at the present residence of Mr. and Mrs. Everett B. Steele.
Dr. Hume was a medical missionary in Wai, India, for the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions of the Congregational Christian Church. He died at Baker Memorial Hospital at the age of 61. He had been flown to New York from India the previous Friday for medical treatment.
Born in Ahmednagar, India, Dr. Hume was graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1916. He received the degree of Doctor of Tropical Medicine from the University of London in 1919.
Dr. Hume, the son, grandson and great-grandson of American missionaries, attended the Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University, before entering Columbia University. After serving in the first World War as a medical officer with the American expeditionary forces in France, Dr. Hume enlisted under the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions for service in India. He had been in Wai as chief surgeon and doctor in charge since then.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Florence Morse Hume; a son, Cpl. Andrew M. Hume of the Army; two daughters, Mrs. William Waters of Madison. Wis. and Miss Catherine E. Hume of Wolfboro, N. H.; two sisters and two brothers.

JUNE WEDDING PLANNED--Dr. and Mrs. Walter Fairbank Hume of Wai, India, and Aburndale, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Harriet Fairbank Hume, to William Eugene Waters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Marland Waters of Mount, Vernon, N. Y. Miss Hume is a senior at Wheat-on College and she has also studied at Abbott Academy in Andover and Northfield Seminary.
Mr. Waters is a private in the United States Army Air Force. He attended the University of Maine, where he was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha, and entered the service in November, 1942.
A June wedding is planned.

WILLIAM E. WATERS GREENSBORO William E. "Bill" Waters passed away on March 14, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. this Friday at Well-Spring Richardson Auditorium. Burial will be in Valhalla, NY. Born on July 2, 1922 in Springfield, Massachusetts he was the son of the late Francis M. and Grace E. (Alden) Waters, he grew up in Englewood, New Jersey and enrolled in the University of Maine in 1940. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in Italy. He obtained his BS from Syracuse University, his MS from Duke University, and his Ph.D from Yale University. His career was in forest entomology and he spent 28 years with the U.S. Forest Service and was later the Dean of the School of Natural Resources at the University of California. He moved to Greensboro in 2000. Bill loved the outdoors and was happiest when he was hiking, canoeing, camping, or fishing. He was an explorer and was always eager to know new places and new ideas. He leaves a daughter, Ellen of Swanzey, NH and sons Will of Quito, Ecuador; Frank ("Butch") of San Diego, CA; and Rick of Ramona, CA, as well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. MRS. FLORENCE M. HUME
AUBURNDALE, Mass. -- Mrs. Florence Morse Hume, 88, widow of Dr. Walter F. Hume, died here June 25. The two were missionaires (sic) to India for 32 years.
She was born Sept. 8, 1884, in Waterbury, Vt., attended schools there and was graduated from Wheelock College, Boston, in 1905.
She was married to Dr. Hume in 1918. The following year they left for India. They worked in Wai, India, from 1920 to 1951 as missionaries of the American Board of Commissioners of Foreign Missions. Dr. Hume was a surgeon and physician in a hospital in Wai.
After Dr. Hume's death in 1951, Mrs. Hume lived at Waler Walker Missionary Home in Aubumdale.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. William (Harriet) Walters of McClean, Va., and Katherine Ella Hume of Auburndale; and a son, Andrew M. Hume of New London, Conn.
A memorial service was held at Walker Missionary Home in Auburndale Thursday. Contributions may be sent to Walker Missionary Home. 144 Hancock St.,
Auburndale, Mass., or to Children's Fund, Division of Pupil Personnel Services, Newton, Mass., public schools.
