It is with great sadness that Catherine Ann Otis passed away August 15,, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 31, 1932 in South Bend, Indiana. She was an accomplished artist for more than 65 years and an active member of the Cave Creek Art Community up until her death. Ann attended Laurel School in Shaker Heights, OH and Connecticut College. She exhibited both nationally and internationally, while receiving numerous prizes and awards. These included Best of Show at Printmakers and First Place at the Cave Creek Film & Fine Arts Festival. Her work was both playful and serious, "celebrating the wonder of being alive." Ann was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend.
Ann was preceded in death by Stuart H. Otis, her husband of 45 years, and is survived by her children, Katie Hermance, Jeb Otis, Sue Breitenecker, Keith Otis, Robin Moriarty and Tim Otis, and 9 grandchildren, as well as her companion of 16 years, Bill Steinmetz. She adopted 5 multiethnic children and one of Ann's greatest legacies was that she embraced diversity and truly believed that "love knows no color." Her children are honored to carry on her legacy. We are forever grateful for the gifts she has given us and the beauty and love she shared with the world through her art. A celebration of her life will be held at The Enclave, 42015 N. Venture Drive, Anthem, Ariz. 85086 on Tuesday, September 18th at 2:00 PM.
Her family wishes to thank the Mayo Clinic Team on 3-W, who provided incredible care and support during her final days. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Ann Otis to the Sonoran Arts League - 7100 E. Miss Mary Marshall Marries S. F. Stewart
THE marriage of Miss Mary Ellen Marshall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hobart E. Marshall of South Bend, and Seymour Floyd Stewart, son of Dr. and Mrs. Floyd Stewart, 5265 Washington boulevard, took place yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the South Rend Country Club, the Rev. Lawrence Ferguson, rector of St. James Episcopal Church, officiating.
The club was decorated with spring flowers against a background of smilax. A reception for 123 guests followed the ceremony. Mrs. Harold Udell Michaels of St. Louis, matron of honor, wore a gown of yellow net appliqued with georgette of a matching shade, an off-the-face hat of yellow hair braid trimmed in velvet ribbon. Miss Catherine Stewart, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Betty Shidler of South Bend, as bridesmaids, wore frocks of green net designed like that of the matron of honor. They wore green velvet trimmed hair braid hats. The matron of honor and the bridesmaids carried colonial bouquets of roses and spring flowers. Emerson Conselman of New York was best man and Gordon Marshall of Chicago and Samuel Richards of St. Louis were ushers.
The bride was gowned in ivory satin and worn a veil of tulle held in place by orange blossoms. She carried a colonial bouquet of gardenias and lilies or the valley.
Following an automobile trip in the East Mr. Stewart and his bride will live at the Colfax apartments, South Herd.
Among the out-of-town guests were Dr. and Mrs. Stewart, the bridegroom's aunt, Miss Evelyn Stewart and his sister, Miss Catherine Stewart of St. Louis.
