Steven E. Burton
Steven E. Burton, 49, of Indianapolis, lost his fight with liver disease on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at I.U. Hospital in Steven E. Burton Mr. Burton had a liver transplant in 1998.
He was born Feb. 25, 1959, in Richmond, Ind., the son of A. Edward and Patricia Jane (Summers) Burton. He was a graduate of Union High School, Taylor University and Ball State University.
Steve was a dedicated teacher for 24 years, 22 of those years at Monroe Central High School of Parker City, Ind. He was active in several educational organizations. He was an active member of Broadway UMC of Indianapolis. He will be remembered as a kind and gentleman.
He leaves to cherish his memory a long time companion, Michael L. Hollowell; his parents, Ed and Pat Burton of Parker City; two brothers, Jack Burton (wife Kathleen) of Muncie and Michael Burton (wife Gerrie Bonarrigo) of Carmel; a sister, Cathie Burton of Winchester; and family member, Sandy Wascovich Hollowell of Clarksville, Tenn.; paternal grandmother, Maeodine (Burton) Lawrence of Winchester; and maternal grandmother, Mary Jane (Summers) Shore of Winchester; two nieces, Kara Burton and Isabel Bonarrigo-Burton; a nephew, Danny Burton; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandfathers; and step-grandfather, Herman Shore; three uncles; and one aunt.
A service to celebrate Steve's life will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at Broadway UMC, 609 E. 29th St., Indianapolis, Ind., with Pastors Mike Mather and Dennis Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Buena Vista Cemetery. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Thornburg Memorial Chapel, 2048N.C.R. 1000 W, Parker City, Ind., and also 11 a.m.-l p.m. Thursday at the church prior to services.
Memorials may be made to the I.U. Hospital Liver Transplant Division, Indiana Liver Foundation or Broadway UMC. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
