Ayoub Shahen, 75, of Cohoes, a retired merchant, died yesterday in Cohoes Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
A native of Syria, Mr. Shahen had resided in Cohoes, the greater part of his life and formerly was employed by the Rensselaer Valve Co. For a number of years he conducted a fruit and produce market, Cohoes, retiring about ten years ago.
Mr. Shahen was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church, Cohoes, also being affiliated with Cohoes Lodge, F&AM, and the Cohoes Fellowcraft Club.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Eacy; three sons, George Shahen of Troy, William Shahen, a member of the Cohoes High School Faculty, and Dr. Joseph Shahen of Loundonville; three daughters, Mrs. Charles Frage and the Misses Mary and Sally Shahen, all of Cohoes; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from Marra's Funeral Home, Cohoes, and at 10:30 a.m. from St. John's Church, where a Requiem Mass will be offered. Interment will be in Waterford Rural Cemetery.
