      Harvey Kearns
      Harvey Thomas Kearns, 77, of 10223 141st Road, Winfield, died Dec. 28, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
      Services will be a 2 p.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
      Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet visitors between 7 and 8:30.
      A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home at Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
      Kearns was born Jan. 3, 1925, near Tisdale, to Osie (Brooks) and Raymond Kearns. He was raised and educated in Tisdale and later moved to Winfield where he attended high school. As a young man, he worked in the fur business with Roy Kadau.
      A veteran of World War II, Kearns entered the U.S. Marine Corps on July 13, 1944, and was stationed in the Okinawa Islands. He was honorably discharged on May 25, 1946.
      On June 30, 1946, he married Dorothy Audry Peters in Hutchinson.
      Kearns farmed and worked in the oil fields. He worked for Hittle Service Co. from the late 1940s until the early 1950s when he began working for Richardson Brothers.
      In 1965 he began employment with Sweetland Hinson, setting up machinery and driving trucks delivering farm implements. He retired in 1982 following 17 years of service.
      Kearns attended Tisdale United Methodist Church and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544. He served on the Salem Township board for a number of years.
      Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Kearns, and a daughter, Beverly Kearns, both of Winfield, a son, Tommy Kearns, Coppell, Texas; three brothers, Donald Kearns, Robert Kearns, and Richard Kearns, all of Winfield; and two grandchildren.

      Deaths - Mrs. Osie Kearns
      Mrs. Osie Kearns, wife of Raymond Kearns of Route 4, died at Newton Memorial hospital early Wednesday morning where she had been taken Tuesday for treatment. She had been in failing health for the past 14 months.
      Mrs. Kearns had been a resident in and near Winfield most of her life, coming here at he age of two years with her parents Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Brooks.
      She was born Sept. 9, 1899 at Fayetteville, Ark. She was married to Raymond Kearns on Nov. 10, 1923.
      Besides her husband, she is survived by four children, Harvey and Donald of Winfield, and Robert and Richard of the home.
      She also is survived by three brothers and five sisters, Luster Brooks of Wyoming, Paul Brooks of Winfield, Earl Brooks of Nevada, Mrs. Charles Smith, and Mrs. Dewey Slagle, both of Winfield, Mrs. Walter Ruggles of Burden, Mrs. Arthur Terrill of Augusta, and Mrs. Glenn Ore of Jacksonville, Ill.
      Funeral services will be held from the Morris mortuary at 2 p.m. Friday. Rev. J. W. McKinney of the First Christian church will be in charge.

      DOROTHY A. KEARNS, 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, September 5, 2008, at Good Samaritan Village.
      Born on November 5, 1928, at Frog Hollow in rural Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Aubry and Pearl (Firebaugh) Peters. She was raised in rural Winfield, attending Victor Point Grade School and graduating from Winfield High School in 1946.

      Dorothy was united in marriage to Harvey Thomas Kearns on June 30, 1946, in Hutchinson, Kansas. The couple made their home in rural Winfield. Mr. Kearns preceded her in death on December 28, 2002.

      She worked as an Avon Saleswoman when she was younger and went to work for Binney & Smith in 1969. She worked for 25 years, retiring January 1, 1994. Dorothy enjoyed collecting family history and was an avid doll collector.

      Her family includes: Her son: Tommy Kearns of Coppell, TX; Her daughter: Beverly Cross and husband, Steve of Winfield; Her brother: Delbert Peters and wife, Christine of Winfield; Her grandchildren: Greg Kearns of Las Vegas, NV; Lexy Kearns of San Diego, CA; Steve Moss of Winfield; and Mark Moss and wife, Jody of Wichita; Her great-grandchildren: Riannon Moss and Tyler Moss; and Her granddog: Dinky. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Parsons.

      Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 9. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.

      Memorials have been established in Mrs. Kearns' name for Good Samaritan Village Activities Fund and for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.milesfuneralservices.com.
