William Sackett White, 27, of Raleigh, North Carolina died on March 9, 2011. He is survived by his parents, William McClanahan White and Sally Sackett White, sister Leila Elliott White, and brother William McClanahan White, Jr. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother Louise Elliott Sackett, paternal grandmother Anne Geoghagen White, Uncle Sydnor Montgomery White and wife Nancy; Aunt Patricia White Young; Aunt Margaret Sackett Andrews and husband Billy; Aunt Leila Sackett Carr and their children. Sackett was born on January 5, 1984, in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he grew up and attended elementary and middle school. For high school, Sackett attended the Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Virginia, and graduated with the class of 2002. Sackett then attended Appalachian State University. Sackett worked at Excel Moving and Storage from 2006 until 2010 and had recently begun working in commercial real estate with his father and Uncle Monty at White Oak Commercial. He was a lifelong member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Terpsichorean Club. He leaves a legacy of which his family is justly proud. While at VES, Sackett earned the admiration and respect of his fellow students, the school?s faculty, and the entire Lynchburg community, both on and off the athletic fields. He was an All-State selection in both football and basketball. His family recalls with joy that his late maternal grandfather, Dr. Charles H. Sackett of Lynchburg, Virginia, was his most devoted fan. Dr. Sackett took pride in his grandson and hardly missed a game or a practice in which he was a participant. Sackett was a young man of great energy and unfailing good humor with many passions, including Panthers football, UNC basketball, and various types of music. He found coastal waters around the world endlessly alluring, and was an expert fisherman and boater from an early age. Spending time at Atlantic Beach with friends and family was also a great joy to Sackett, but his greatest passion in life was reserved for Shep, his loyal, loving and attentive Golden Retriever. When one saw Sackett, one also saw Shep. The two were inseparable. Sackett had the gift of excelling at all he attempted, and his competitive spirit, though gentlemanly, attended all that he did. He had that rare and wondrous ability to make any person feel special, no matter their station in life. His wit, his humor and his kindness endeared him to friends, family, and strangers alike. Those who met Sackett encountered a warm and embracing individual who had an irrepressible sense of humor which, to the good fortune of those around him, he exhibited every day of his life. Sackett was kind, loving and loyal to his family and friends and took great joy in their happiness. There is much to cherish when remembering him. There is comfort in knowing that he was in a good place, and his family and friends feel blessed that Sackett was a part of their lives and will forever cherish his memory. A memorial service for Sackett will be held at White Memorial Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 11:00 AM. Friends are welcome at his family?s home, 1029 Marlowe Road in Raleigh, on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. For those contemplating a remembrance of Sackett, in lieu of flowers, please consider the SPCA of Wake County (200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603) or Virginia Episcopal School (400 VES Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503). Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary?s Street Raleigh. Condolences may be made through www.brownwynneraleigh.com
