1904. NATHANIEL SOUTHWORTH4 [William3, Constant2, Edward1], b. 31 Oct., 1692; m. MARY TORREY, b. 7 April, 1689, at Mendon, dau. of Josiah2<.sup> and Sarah (Batt) Torrey.* He moved to Bristol, R.I., where his two eldest children were baptized. Between September, 1719, and March, 1719-20, he moved to Mansfield, Ct. He was a ship carpenter. He went on a voyage to the Mediterranean to improve his fortunes about 1730 or 1731, from which he never returned. His widow married (2, 1738, ___Manley; no children.

Footnote for Josiah and Sarah (Batt) Torrey: *Josiah Torrey married, at Medfield, Mass., 5 May, 1680, Sarah, widow of Paul Batt, daughter of Rev. John Wilson, whose wife was Sarah, daughter of Rev. Thomas Hooker. Rev. John Wilson was son of Rev. John Wilson who was the first minister of the First Church, Boston, who came in the fleet with Winthrop in 1630.
Josiah Torrey was son of William Torrey, who came from England in 1640; settled at Weymouth; was admitted freeman in 1642; was representative 1642 and after. He was lieutenant in the artillery company and later captain. He lived in a house on what is now Washington Street, nearly opposite the Old South. Afterwards he moved to Mednon, Mass., to Bristol and Great Barrington, R.I.
