  «i»Arizona Daily Star«/i» Tucxon, Arizona Obituaries CONWAY, Ruth M., 83, passed away April 23, 2002 at Yuma Regional Medical Center. She was born in Tucson, AZ, to J.F. ``Pop'' and Ada S. McKale on August 29, 1918. Ruth was raised in Tucson and graduated from Tucson High School and the University of Arizona. She graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Physical Education and Vocal Music and her MA in Education. While attending the U of A, she served as Student Body Secretary and Junior Class Secretary. Ruth was a member of MortarBoard, Spurs, FST, AWF Council, SAI, ``A'' Club, Phi Beta Kappa, Who's Who in America and Delta Gamma Fraternity at the University. Following graduation she taught at Roscrooge Junior High School, Tucson High School and the University of Arizona. Ruth married her husband of 58 years, Raymond W. Conway in 1943. They moved to Yuma in 1947. She was active in Assistance League, Chapter AG-PEO, Yuma County Historical Society and St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he was a member of the choir, choir director and soloist, President of ECW, Senior Warden and Mardi Gras Queen. Ruth also served on the Library Board, Burn Commission and as Yuma Memorial Gift Chairman of the American Heart Association for 25 years. She was founding member and president of the Yuma U of A Alumni Association. She is survived by her husband, Ray, of the home; daughters, Barbara (Gary) Major of Yuma and Elaine Conway of Salinas, CA; grandchildren, Garth (Angela) Major of Tallahassee, FL and Bethany Major of Tucson; and great-granddaughter, Eveline Ruth; sisters, Elizabeth M. Thomas of Tucson and Marian M. Garrett of Coolidge; also numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and son, James McKale Conway. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Monday, April 29, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Tom Phillips will officiate. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Tucson, at 4:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Gary Major, Garth Major, David Maehling, Tom Goodwin James D. Garrett, Jr., and James D. Garrett III. Honorary Bearers include Elizabeth Carpenter, Bonnie Copeland, Myrtle Stewart, Earl Stewart, Bethany Major, Vickie Sixta, Yvonne Cano, Susan Neumann, Mary Goodwin, Estrella Velarde, Carl Atnip, and Kip Weinberg.
