Alice Schilke
The funeral for Alice M. Schilke, 93, of Fremont will be 11 a.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont.
She died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Alice Mapes was born Oct. 6, 1905, in Rogers. She lived in Schuyler. She was a registered nurse and did her training at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln. She married Godfrey H. Schilke Jan. 11, 1927, in Lincoln. After her marriage she lived at Tobias, then moved to a farm south of Fremont in 1941. She did private nursing prior to her employment at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County (now Fremont Area Medical Center) where she worked from 1949 until her retirement in 1971. He died Dec. 17, 1988. She moved to Fremont in 1989, living the last six years at Arbor Manor.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont; a 60-year of member of Cedar Bluffs Garden Club; past president of Dodge County Nurses Association; and a member of St. Elizabeth's Alumni Association.
Survivors include: four sons, Neil (and wife, Bonnie) Schilke and Gail (and wife, Jean) Schilke, all of Fremont, Dale (and wife, Brenda) Schilke of Oklahoma City, Okla., and David (and wife, Joyce) Schilke of Elkhorn; two daughters, Hortense Wilkinson of Fremont and Marjorie (Mrs. Vernon) Reynolds Johnson of Mesa, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Leland Uden will officiate Fridays service. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to Salem Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.
