      Obituary for Marton Dean Peterson
Gunnison, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Marton Dean Peterson, age 70, passed away March 29, 2018 at his home in Gunnison. He was born June 19, 1947 in Payson, Utah, a son of Dean and Thela Mae Sackett Peterson.

He graduated from Payson High School, Class of 1967. He served his country during the Viet Nam Era in the US Army, where he was a machinist and wrecker driver, who retrieved broken down equipment from the front lines, and changed barrels on the hawsers when they melted down. The army sent him to Naval School, where he also learned fiber glass boat repair.

Marton married the love of his life, Joan Johnson, November 27, 1971 in Koosharem, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple. Marton believed in working hard to always provide everything his family needed. He had many trials in life, one of which was having 2 out of 5 kids called back to heaven as babies.

Marton managed Intermountain Protein Products in Benjamin, Utah for years, owned his own rendering plant in Salina, and drove a semi truck cross country for Blain Evans, with Joan riding shotgun, helping find their way on the maps. During their time traveling, one highlight he was so proud of was stopping in Nauvoo, Illinois to do a Temple Session.

During the last few years of his life, he enjoyed camping and working as camp host with his beautiful wife by his side, up Payson Canyon at Blackhawk Campground.

Marton was an amazing man and touched everyone he met. He was always there to offer a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen to, or just a big hug when needed. He will be missed by many, especially by his wife, his children and grandkids.

He was jack of all trades, if you needed help with electrical, plumbing, framing, mechanics or anything else, he always knew how to do it.

Marton was a very devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He gave all he had to his family.

He is survived by his wife of Gunnison; children: Stephanie and Kenny Nelson, Jennifer and Jason Bott; Douglas Peterson; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way; brothers and sisters: Edith Fitch, Shela Shephard, Joe Peterson, Earl and Janet Peterson, Phyllis and Larry Hawley.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Thela Peterson; a son, Phillip Odean Peterson; a daughter, Angela Ruth Peterson; brother, Edward Peterson; sister, Mary (David) Pace; brothers-in-law: Larry Fitch and Marvin Shephard.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2018 at 12:00 Noon in the Spanish Fork 8th LDS Ward Chapel, 1006 East 200 South in Spanish Fork, Utah.

Friends may call for viewing at the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, 80 West Center Street in Gunnison, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Spanish Fork, Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services.

Burial with military honors accorded by the Spanish Fork American Legion Post #68 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
