William Greenwood/Sackett, son of William Sackett and Mary Greenwood, was born in 9 Devonshire? Street, Brighton, Sussex, on 5 November 1859 and baptized at St John's, Brighton, on 18 August 1861. He was possibly the William Sackett who died aged 73 in Bromley, Kent, in 1934. He married at St Saviour's, Battersea, Surrey, on 16 November 1879, Sarah Savage, daughter of Charles Savage. Sarah was born in Westminster, LondonG, in about 1856.
William was born before the marriage of his mother Mary Greenwood to his supposed father William Sackett. He appears in records in both names, and his son Charles was recorded as both Greenwood and Sackett in the register when he married in 1908. A present-day descendant recalls that the Greenwoods often referred to themselves as Sacketts in conversation.
