G. FRED RICKELS OF ANAMOSA DIES THURSDAY, MARCH 7
G. Fred Rickels, 69, Anamosa, died Thursday, March 7, at Anamosa Community hospital, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 9, at 2 p.m., at St Paul Lutheran church, Anamosa. Rev. La Verne C. Beener conducted the service. Burial was in Prairie Hill cemetery, Castle Grove Township.

Pallbearers included Richard Rickels, Galen Harms, Raymond Harms, Robert Rickels, LaVerne Rickels and Elmer Julfs. Mrs. Maynard Bartels was soloist. Mrs. M. W. Fredericks was organist.

He was born Sept. 28, 1898, son of Harm Rickels and Marie Hinrichs, Castle Grove Township,Jones County. He was married June 26, 1929, to Grace Sackett, at St. Paul Lutheran church, Anamosa. He attended Castle Grove township school. He farmed in the Anamosa area until 1943 when he moved to Anamosa and worked at Anamosa Concrete Products until his retirement in 1960. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church.

Mrs. Fred Rickels died at her home in Cass township last Thursday, March 12. One week before her death Mrs. Rickels gave birth to a daughter,who was baptized immediately after birth and given the name of Ruth Mary. Her daughter lived but four hours. Mrs. Rickels health continued in a serious condition until her strength was exhausted and she passed
to the Great Beyond a week after the death of her daughter. She was born December 13, 1903, and was therefore 21 years and three mouths of age at the time of her decease. Her maiden name was Mary Louise Fahrni. She was left motherless at the tender age of seventeen months. She was continued in the Lutheran church of Castle Grove township, which church she continued to attend until a Lutheran church was instituted at Anamosa. She was united in marriage to Gerd Frederick Rickels of Castle Grove township February 14, 1823. Mr. and Mrs. Rickels have made their home near the village of Freemont, Cass township, since their marriage. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Rickels is survived by her aged father, Fred Fahrni; one sister, Mrs. Tobe Caspers,and one brother, Frederick Fahrni. Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon from the Lutheran church in Castle Grove township. They were conducted by Rev. Fritschel, the pastor of the Lutheran church at Anamosa. The pall bearers were Raymond Krominga, Fred Casper, George Heiken, William Ahlrich, Walter Miller and Gerd Eiben.
