Haviland, 77, Oberlin, Ohio, a former lawyer for Bendix Corp., died March 24 in a nursing home in We1lington,Ohio. Mr. Haviland was a lawyer for Bendix Corp. from 1949 until 1961. Later he was director of international marteting and an attorney for Bendix-Westinghouse, EJyria, Ohio, before he retired in 1973. Earlier he Wj$ an attorney for the General Electric Co., Schenectady, N.Y., from 1945 to 1949, and worked for the Lend-Lease Administration in Washington, D.C., from 1941 to 1945. He graduated in 1929 from Williams College, Williamstown, Mass., and Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Mass., in 1933. He also attended the University of Munich in Germany and the University of Berlin. He was a member of the Williams College Club, Kansas City. Mr. Haviland was a member of the Missouri Bar and former chairman of its International Law Committee and a former member of the Kansas City Bar Association and the Lawyers Association of Kansas City. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City and the Hillcrest Country Club. Re was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Oberlin. He was born in Glcns Falls, N.Y., and moved to Oberlin 15 years ago. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Haviland of the home; two sons, John G. Haviland IV, Palomar Mountain, Calif., and James M. Haviland, Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Diantha Johnson. Lawrence, Kan., and Mrs. Ann Carpineti, Wasbinston. D.C.; two brothers, James W. Haviland, Seattle, and Morrison L. Haviland, Roxbury, Mass.; and five grandchildren. Memorial services were March 31 in Oberlin; burial was in Glens Falls. The family suggests contributions to the church.
