Curtis L Hulten
Birth 27 Mar 1930
Duluth, St. Louis County, Minnesota, USA
Death 31 Jul 2004 (aged 74)
Burial Cremated, Other, Specifically: Curt was cremated and "buried" on his beloved farm in Meadowlands, MN, where the family maintains a memorial marker.
Curtis L. Hulten, 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 31, 2004. He was born March 27, 1930 in Duluth, to Peter Eric and Fern Hulten. Curt graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth.
He married Anna Kahles in Nov. of 1950 and soon after joined the Army National Guard. After a tour of duty in El Paso, Curt and Ann returned to Cloquet, where he was a television repairman. His electronic training later gained him positions working at the radar installation in Finland, Minn., teaching radar in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; and serving as a Radar and Communications Specialist on the DEW Line in Alaska, Canada and Greenland.
Before moving to Meadowlands and starting a tree farm with his son Keith, Pioneer Forest, Curt and Ann enjoyed their home and their many friends and neighbors at Big Lake, outside of Cloquet. Curt was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and hunting. He was a mechanical wizard and could engineer and build just about anything-from kitchen cupboards to an industrial elevator.
Curt was also a 'garage logic' guy before the name came into being. He opened his large well-equipped garages to friends and family, everyone joining in work on various projects. Something was always being skinned, filleted, repaired or built in Curt's garage, and he was usually talking, teaching and teasing.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; son, Keith (Jayne) Hulten of Cloquet; granddaughter, Amanda (Brody) Willis; and great-granddaughter; JoLynn of Bemidji, and granddaughter Anna Hulten of Lino Lakes. He is also survived by three sisters, June Carlson of Cloquet, Carole Lindahl of Meadowlands, and Kate (Mary) O'Keefe of Woodbury. A much beloved uncle to two generations of family members, he will be greatly missed by Phil (Gwen), Scott (Mary), and Sean (Jeanine) Bakken; Patricia Petersen; Susan (Mark) Fuentes; Greg (Tracy) Tamillo; Leslee Lindahl; and Angela (Brian) Thomson Tracy. Great-nieces and nephews-who will always remember four-wheeler and hay rides on the paths Uncle Curt cleared at the farm-include: Chad (Kristy and daughter Isabel), Alex, Laura, Sean Jr., Reed, and Chase Bakken; Steve and Dan (Jill) Ridgeway; Michael Fuestes; Bridget (James and sons Clifton and Bennet) McPherson; Erin Tamillo; Madeline and Andrew Thomson Obele; and Will Tracy.
Uncle Curt was always reading and learning. He taught us all so much and loved us all so well.
MEMORIAL SERVICE:1 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2004 in United Methodist Church in Meadowlands, Minn. Luncheon will follow at the Meadowlands Community Center. Memorials to the family are preferred.
