Notes |
Married:
- Marriage Certificate:
Two of Phoebe Potter's granddaughters told Karen Gerke that Phoebe Potter was 13 years old when she was married to George. According to her death certificate, Phoebe was born 15 Dec 1861. For her to have been 13 years old at the time of her marriage on Dec. 14 the year would have been 1874; one day before her 14th birthday.
Karen says that: " The fact that the were married in Wisconsin was a puzzle. Esdaile, Pierce County, Wisconsin was just across the river from the Goodhue county seat of Red Wing. If marriage laws were the same then as now, they could not have been married in Minnesota until age 15, even with parents consent. In Wisconsin the age doesn't matter as long as they have parents consent. We believe they couldn't get married in Minnesota because she was only 13, so crossed just into Wisconsin where they could marry."
------ 50th Anniversary -------
Celebrated Their
Golden Wedding
Fifty years ago last Sunday, Dec.
14 -- occurred the wedding of Mr.
and Mrs. George Sackett, and for
those 50 years they have travelled
life's highway together thru cloud
and sunshine.
On Sunday their 9 children, 20
grand children and a host of other
relatives and friends invaded the
home of the venerable couple to
commemorate the day and extend
congratulations.
The wedding cake was made by
Mrs. Walter Sackett, 50 candles de-
corating it, and a sumtuous dinner
was served by the fivedaughters.
A purse of gold was presented to
Mr. and Mrs. Sackett by their chil-
dren, relatives and friends, and with
the presentation the hopw was ex-
pressed that the worthy couple
might celebrate othe anniversaries
with them.
