      Martha Ann Walsh Becomes Bride in Rectory Service

      Immediate families attended a single ring ceremony at 11 a. m. March 31 when Miss Martha Ann Walsh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Thomas M. Walsh Sr. of 503 S Moore St., became the bride of Jack R. Gillis, son of the Ruel Gillises of R-R. 4.

      Msgr. B. J. Sheedy officiated at the service in the rectory of Holy Trinity Church. Miss Mary A. Walsh of Washington, D. C. sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and Robert H. Gillis was best man.

      The bride selected a powder blue crepe street-length dress with brown accessories for her wedding. She wore a pearl necklace given her by the bridegroom and a white carnation headpiece.

      Dinner for Families

      Her sister wore a beige silk shantung dress with brown accessories and a headpiece of yellow carnations.

      Assisting at a wedding dinner at the home of the bride's parents for the immediate families were Miss Mary Edna Johnston. Miss Joan Fletcher, Miss Irma Crociani and Miss Donna Belle Nolte. Guests were from Bloomington-NormaL Washington, D. C, and Le Roy.

      When the couple left for a southern wedding trip, the bride wore a cocoa brown gabardine suit with brown accessories and a blue tweed coat. The newlyweds are at home on R. R. 4.

      Prenuptial Parties

      The bride Is a graduate of Trinity High School and the bridegroom, who farms is a graduate of Normal Community High School.

      Prenuptial parties included a variety shower given March 14 by Miss Joan Walsh and Mrs. Thora Walsh Jr. at 503 S. Moore St.; a variety shower March 18 by Mrs. Leslie Stone, Mrs. Lorin Jump and Miss Mary Gleeson at 2011 Taylor St. for 12 guests, and a variety shower March 27 given by Miss Mary Edna Johnston at 40J W. Emerson St. for 14 guests.

      Martha A. Gillis

      DANVERS -- The funeral of Martha A. Gillis, 61, of R.R. 2, Danvers, will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Carmody-FIynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, and at 10 a.m. at St Mary's Church, Bloomington.

      The Rev. Stephen Schneider will officiate. Burial will be In Park Lawn Cemetery, Danvers.

      Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

      She died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday (Sept 1, 1990) at her home. She had been ill.

      She was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Bloomington, a daughter of Thomas M. and Hazel E. Sackett Walsh. She married Jack R. Gillis March 31, 1951, in Bloomington. He survives.

      Other survivors Include three sons, Pete and Daniel, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mark, Danvers; one daughter, Mary Be-utke, Streator; one brother, John , Walsh, Arleta, Calif.; one sister, Mary Walsh, 1311 Towanda Ave.; and eight grandchildren.

      Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

      She was a member of St Mary's Church and a graduate of Trinity High School.

      Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Danvers Rescue Squad.

      Jack R. Gillis

      DANVERS -- Jack R. Gillis, 79, of Danvers died at 10:40 a.m. Monday (June 6, 2005) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

      His service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Otto-Argo-Calvert Memorial Home, Dan-vers, the Rev. Richard Tindall and the Rev. Richard Bucher officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Danvers. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home.

      Memorials may be made to Danvers Fire and Rescue or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.

      He was born Aug. 7, 1925, at Normal, to Ruel H. and Hulda Hanell Gillis. He married Martha A. Walsh on March 31, 1951, at Bloomington. She died Sept. 1, 1990.

      Surviving are three sons, Pete (Marilyn) Gillis, Loveland, Colo.; Dan (Sue) Gillis, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Mark (Cindy) Gillis, Danvers; a daughter, Mary (Ken) Beutke, Long Point; a brother, Robert (Josephine) Gillis, Bloomington; a sister, Dorothy Basting, Normal; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

      His parents preceded him in death.

      He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II, serving with the 10th Mountain Reg. in the European theater of operation.

      Mr. Gillis was a dairy farmer in the Heyworth area and later for 40 years at Danvers, prior to retirement.
