Phillip "Phil" Dean Pieratt, age 85 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, April 17, 2020 at his home in Butler. He was born January 17, 1935 to Esta Cecil and Martha Noreen Carp Pieratt in Hobart, Oklahoma.
Phil, one of two children, grew up in Bates County, Missouri where he attended several elementary schools. He graduated from Miami High School in 1953 . . . and as a senior in high school served in the National Guard. He then joined the U.S. Army where he served in Germany with the occupational forces for three years after which he furthered his education at U. S. Trade School where he trained as a mechanic. After returning to Missouri, he worked for Cesna Aircraft for a short time, then at Debaucher Chevrolet Auto Dealer as a Service Supervisor. In 1965 he began a farming career with his parents in Amoret, Missouri named Mulberry Farms. In 1975 he bought out his parents and farmed until his retirement in 2006 at which time he moved to Butler. Phil's church memberships included the Merwin Christian Church, Butler 1st Christian Church and Amoret Christian Church where he served as Elder. He also attended the Butler Happy Hill Church of God. Phil served his community as well on the Homer Township Board and the Bates County Rural Water Board. On August 12, 1960 he was united in marriage to Donna Lea Wyatt and together they raised a son, Clifford. After her death in 2013, Phil married Etha Pearl Black and cherished her companionship for several years.
Phil was a gentleman--kind, generous and loving. Woodworking and carpentry was his hobby. He made furniture and enjoyed pastimes of dinner theater, fishing, gardening, visiting, playing cards, reading, walking and, of course, spending time with grandchildren, family and friends. He traveled in later years with Etha Pearl to England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales in addition to Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah and Augusta in Georgia.
Phil is survived by his wife, Etha Pearl Black of Butler, Missouri; one son, Clifford Pieratt and wife Regine of Belton, Missouri; a sister, Dorothy Payne of Amoret, Missouri; five grandchildren, Kevin Pieratt and wife Jackie, Jason Pieratt and wife Dana, Jessica Johnson, Crystal Ryan and Melissa Gaines and husband Matt; ten great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces who were very special to him. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Alan Black and wife Brenda of Deepwater, Missouri, Kevin Black and wife Chelle of Butler, Missouri and Donna Gregory and husband Randy of Butler, Missouri; seven step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Donna.
If you know Phillip Dean Pieratt, a card or phone call to his family would go a long way in remembering him. If you don't have family addresses, feel free to mail notes or cards to us at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (1301 N. Orange St., Butler, MO 64730) and we will send to the family.
NOTE: Once the university is done with the body, the remains or cremains, are returned to the family for burial.
