      Obit:
      Lt. Col. Allen H. Blum, 85, of Excelsior Springs, MO, died Thursday, September 29, 2005 at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Friends may call from 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, at the Prichard-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs. Internment of Lt. Col. Blum's cremated body will be 12:30 p.m., Friday, October 14, at Fort Leavenworth Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to: Alzheimer Association, the Excelsior Springs Health Care Foundation, or American Legion Post 236. Memorials may be mailed to funeral home. Lt. Col. Blum was born December 29, 1919 in Omaha, NE, the only son of Albert and Margaret Kurtz Blum. He was reared on a farm in the vicinity of Ashland, NE, and graduated from Ashland High School in 1936. On June 5, 1943, he married Josephine E. Sackett, his wife of 57 years. She preceded him in death in 2002. In January 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Following completion of aviation cadet training as a pilot, he completed active combat tours in Southwest Pacific in WWII and again in the Korean War. His military career included many locations in the United States as well as overseas tours in New Guinea, Japan, Vietnam, and Turkey. He served in the Air Force for 23 years, retiring on December 31, 1964. After retiring from the Air Force, Lt. Col. Blum spent thirty years as a farmer and stockman near Wakarusa, KS. He is survived by three daughters, Frances Carman, Green Bay, WI, Barbara Marks, Independence, MO, and Dr. Carol Blum, LIberty, MO; a son, Allen Blum, Jr., Long Beach, CA; six grandchildren, and six greatgrandchildren.
