      VERSAILLES, NY - Edward L. "Ted" Sprague Jr., 90, of Versailles, NY passed away Friday August 21, 2015 at ECMC in Buffalo, NY.

      He was born August 1, 1925 in the town of Hanover the son of the late Edward L. and Isabelle (Snyder) Sprague Sr.

      On June 30, 1947 he married the former Verna Smith who survives.
      Mr. Sprague was a carpenter at the Thomas Indian School and he owned and operated Sprague's General Store in Versailles, NY for many years.

      He was a member of the Versailles Vol. Fire Department and an active member of the Versailles Community Assoc. He also was a rhythm guitar player and played with many area musicians, including his band the Saddle Lads.

      Besides his loving wife of 68 years he is survived by four sons Dr. Edward (Chris) Sprague III of Machias, NY, Robert (Marlene) Sprague of Orchard Park, NY, Gary (Susanne) Sprague of Versailles, NY and James (Diane) Sprague of Williamsville, NY and a daughter Marlene (Wayne) Lyon of Perrysburg, NY and 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Myrton Sprague of Irving, NY and a sister Ruth Westland of Versailles, NY and several nieces and nephews.

      He was predeceased by a brother Kenneth Sprague and a sister Evelyn Maines.

      Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc. 105 East Main Street, Gowanda, NY on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

      Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the funeral home with Rev. Richard Hemann and Pastor Brett Davis, officiating.

      Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.
