Daily Tribune, Friday, January 20, 1939, page 8 - Mrs. Lena Cook - Mrs. Lena Cook, age 68, widow of George Cook, retired Detroit police lieutenant, died at 8:30 o'clock this morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. William J.E. Moore, 202 Baker street.
Born Lena Birk, Mar. 8, 1870 at Bennington, Michigan, she was married to George Cook in 1886 at Owosso. The couple then came to Detroit to live until 1921 - when they moved to Royal Oak. They cemebrated their golden wedding anniversary here Mar. 17, 1935. Mr. Cook died Sept. 15, 1936.
The body will be taken this evening to the home of Mrs. Moore from the J.H. Spiller chapel, 836 North Main street. It will lie in state at the First Baptist church from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m., Monday, when the Rev. Charles S. Dayton will conduct funeral service. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Other survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Grace V. Deverson, Mrs. Hazel G. Sackett and Mrs. Helen M. Elkins, all of Royal Oak; four sons, George T., Howard J., and Charles E., all of Detroit, and Harold C. of Royal Oak; two sisters, Lenna Meyers of Glendale, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Schnell of Cleveland; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Daily Tribune, September 15, 1936, Page 1 - George Cook Dies, Retired Lieutenant of Detroit Police - George Cook, age 74, died this morning at 10:30 o'clock in his home 728 North Washington avenue. A retired Detroit police lieutenant, he had resided there for the last fifteen years.
Born March 8, 1862, he was married at Owosso in 1886 to Lena Burke. He came immediately to Detroit where he served for 30 years in the police department before retiring in 1916 as a lieutenant. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Royal Oak. The Cooks, who have been residents of Royal Oak since 1921, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary here last March 17.
Survivors are his wife, Lena Burke; four daughters, Mrs. William E. Moore, Mrs. Harold Deverson, Mrs. Joseph Sackett and Mrs. William Elkins, all of Royal Oak; four sons, George T., of Detroit, Howard J., of Grosse Pointe, Charles E. of Highland Park and Harold C., of Detroit, two brothers, Christopher of Owosso and John of Saginaw, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at the J.H. Spiller chapel, 836 North Main Street.
