MARGIE F. DOWNEN, 84, former Latham and Burden, Kansas resident, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Winfield Resthaven.
Born on July 7, 1928 in Latham, Kansas, she was the daughter of Robert and Marie (Hoard) Parker. She was raised and received her education in Latham.
Margie was united in marriage to Roy A. Downen on April 26, 1947 in Howard, Kansas. The couple made their home in Latham where she was a homemaker. In 1959, the couple moved to Burden and in 1972 she began working as a CNA at the Colonial Manor in Douglass, Kansas. Margie also worked at the Good Samaritan Village in Winfield and the Dexter Nursing Home. Mr. Downen preceded her in death on June 10, 1992.
She was a member the Latham Christian Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, crosswords and NBA basketball. Margie also enjoyed fishing and camping.
Her family includes: Her son: Roy D. Downen and wife Sandra of Oxford, KS; Her daughter: Cleta Howe and husband Maurice of Burden, KS; Her grandchildren: Rodney Mann and wife Barri, JD Howe, Tammy Downen and Michelle Kelley and husband Allen; Her 19 great-grandchildren and her 3 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, J.Y. and Gailey, and her sister, Donnie Davis.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Latham Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
A memorial has been established in Margie's name for Winfield Resthaven. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Survivors: sons, J.Y. Gailey of Owasso, Okla., Johnnie Gailey of Thomas, Okla.; daughters, Donnie Davis of El Dorado, Margie Downen of Burden; sister, Celestia Brown of California; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Donnie Davis, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 at Lakepoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.
Donnie was born Feb. 9, 1924 in Hiawassi, Ark., the daughter of Pearl (Hoard) Osborn. She grew up in Latham and graduated from Latham High School. She was united in marriage to Robert B. Davis on May 13, 1944 in Cleveland, Okla. Donnie was a nurse aide at Lakepoint and other care homes since 1966. She was a care giver and loved taking care of people. She liked to do puzzles, watch college basketball games, listen to her scanner, camp, fish and play cards. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life.
Surviving family include: her husband, Robert of the home; sons, Robert L. and wife Beverly Davis and Mark Davis, all of El Dorado; sister, Margie Downen of Winfield; grandchildren, David Davis, Steve Davis, Christie and husband Bill Bowman, Bobbi and husband Kenny Eaton, Penny and husband Tyson Nielsen and Jenny Davis; and great-grandchildren, Shana Davis, Samantha, Marissa and McKenzee Eaton, Brayden Bowman, Raichel, Lauren, Taylor, Connor and Kinley Davis. She was preceded in death by sons, John and Fred; mother, Pearl Osborn; and twin brother, Johnnie and other brother JY.
