Irvine G. White

Irvine G. White, age 92, of Gladwin passed away Thursday July 11, 2002 at MidMichigan Medical Center, Gladwin after a short illness. He was born July 16, 1909 in Gooderham, Ontario to William G. and Maude White. They moved to Gladwin when he was nine months old. Irvine was graduated from Gladwin County Normal (C.M.U.) in 1933, and taught in the rural school system. On June 12, 1936 he married Frances Lorraine Sackett. They were married 63 years until her death in 1999. In 1941 he was hired by Dow Chemical Co., where he worked until his retirement in 1971. He was an active member of the Gladwin Chapter of the Moose. Surviving are his sons Kenneth (Mona) White of Freeland, and Donald (Pam) White of Gladwin; grandsons Robert White of Freeland, Michael (Kathy) White of Freeland, Chad (Nicole) White of Midland, and Brad (Jessica) White of Gladwin; great grandchildren Justyne White, Megan White, Jacob White, Isabela White, and Brandon White; sister Faye Haines and brother Verl (Jeanette) White. One sister, Gladys, grandson Clint White, and great-grandson Jacob Bradley White predeceased him. A memorial service was held Monday, July 15, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church, Gladwin, with Elder Marlene Haines officiating. Burial of his ashes will take place at a later date at Ridge Cemetery, Gladwin, Michigan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Donors favorite charity or MidMichigan Hospice.

LEWIS DANIEL ?Danny? of Flint, age 69, died Wednesday, August 6, 1997 in Wayne County. Mr. Lewis and his wife had just returned from a wonderful 3 week trip to Ireland that day. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 1997 at Court Street United Methodist Church, 225 W. Court St., Flint, Rev, James Cochran officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Genessee County or Estart Fund. Visitation will be held 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, and from 12-2 p.m. Saturday at the church. An Eastern Star Memorial service will be conducted under the auspices of Masonic Genessee Lodge #174 .F&A.M. at 7:30 p.m. He was born March 9, 1928 in Detroit, MI, the son of Daniel B. and Mary (Vaness) Sackett. He was a veteran of the United State (sic) Navy. Lewis was past Master of Masonic Lodge Eastgate #508 Grosse Point. He was also past Patron of Acanthus 3491 O.E.S. He earned his B.A. Degree from Baker College at the age of 66. Lewis was an active member of the Flintstone Chapter 105 of family campers and RVers and a good friend of Court Street United Methodist Church. Lewis and his wife were a Big Brother to a special 12 year old young man, Derek McCartney. Lewis was an electrician on skilled trades for over 50 years, currently working at the Chrysler Outer Drive Plant. He also held a contractor?s license and did house wiring. He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Gail Asselstine Griffin-Sackett of Flint; two daughters, Elizabeth Czebienlak and husband Tom of Roseville, MI, Leslie Hoffman and husband Marshall of Farmington Hills, MI, four grandchildren, Neil, Amelia, Caryn and Alana Czebienlak and the Hoffmans are expecting in September; also seven sisters, Lorraine White and husband Irving of Gladwin, Eleanor Ludwick, Bernice Reznick, Irene Jones, Elva Ball, and Virginia Brandt all of the Detroit area, and Caryl Robinson of Georgia. Also surviving are two step-children, Rev. Sara S. Griffin of Chicago and Jon Griffin and wife Lisa of Grand Rapids; step-grandson, Andrew Norman Griffin, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, two brothers and one daughter.

Frances Lorraine White, 84, of Gladwin, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999 at Health Source, Saginaw. She had been ill due to a stroke which occurred the previous March. Born March 26, 1915 in Ann Arbor, she was the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Vannest) Sackett. Frances married Irvine G. White, June 21, 1936 in Gladwin, after moving to her grandparents, Turner and Emma Vannests home in Gladwin in 1933. For many years she wrote a column Along M-18 for The Gladwin County Record and Beaverton Clarion. She also taught sewing for the local 4-H chapter. Frances enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and swimming at Sugar Springs. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Ken and wife Mona of Freeland, and Don and wife Pam of Gladwin; five sisters, Bernice Reznick, Virginia Brandt, Irene Jones, and Alva Ball, all of the Detroit area, and Carol Robinson of Temple, Ga; two sisters-in-law, Delores Sackett of Warren and Gail Sackett of Flint; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Eleanor Ludwig; and three brothers, Lewis, James, and Robert Sackett. A memorial service will be held today (Wednesday) at 1 p.m. at the Gladwin First United Methodist Church. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the American Diabetes Association. Sisson Funeral Home in Gladwin was in charge of the arrangements.
