Lila Esther Barker
1924 - 2017
Lila Esther "Marie" Barker, 92, of Cheboygan, passed away Friday, May 26, at home surrounded by her family.
Born July 1, 1924, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Harry and Viola Carman. Lila graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit in 1942 where she met and later married the love of her life, Murray Barker, on September 11, 1942. Together, they raised their two children, daughter Susan Marie and son Robert William.
During her career, Lila held various clerical and administrative positions including jobs at Broward Community College and Krogers. She retired after 20 years from Ford Motor Company where she was employed as an administrative assistant. She was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to dance and watch Lawrence Welk with Murray, spend time with family and at the cottage on Lake Huron. She enjoyed painting and various arts and crafts.
To family and friends who were blessed to have Lila in their life, she was universally known as a kind, outgoing, generous and fun-seeking person. Her spirit was loving and her gregarious nature inspiring. Here smile will not be forgotten and her memory will be cherished.
Lila is survived by husband Murray Barker and son Robert and (Mary) Barker, of Cheboygan, Mich., son-in-law Douglas Drahota, of Valparaiso, Ind., five grandchildren and six great-grand children. Her grandchildren are: Lisa and (Rick) Wallace, of Westfield, Ind., Laura and (Aaron) Kocher, of Valparaiso, Ind., Lana and (Scott) Lavengood, of Westfield, Ind., Drew and (Rachel) Barker, of Skandia, Mich., and Glen and (Allyson) Barker, of Traverse City, Mich. Her great-grandchildren are Elizabeth and Nat Wallace, Ava, Luke and Abby Lavengood and Lake Marie Barker. She was preceded in death by daughter Susan Marie and siblings Buddy, Carol, Frankie, Dorothy and Margie.
Services will be held Saturday, June 3, at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, in Milford, Mich. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. with service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Highland Township Cemetery.

Roma F. Laughton, better known as "Frankie," passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Roma was born Dec. 25, 1921, in St Clair, Mich. Frankie was very active in her community where she did a total of 700-plus volunteer hours in her community. She was a very avid card player and could not wait to sit down to a good challenge in a game of cards. She was a retired phone operator for Michigan Bell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Laughton; and her daughter, Roma Shook. Survivors include her son Thomas (Julia) Tucker of Fort Walton Beach; sister, Lila (Murry) Barker of Muskegon, Mich.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of friends.
The family would like to make a special thanks to Joyce Lee for everything you did to help mother, and they would also like to thank Valerie, Sarah and Christina from the Magnolia Manor for all their help.
A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 16, with a prayer at 7 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Humane Society or to your favorite charity.
