72 Eneas Woodin was a carpenter and builder in early life. When he married he settled on a small farm on Hamden Plains. As years passed he added to his acres, and giving

up his trade he became one of the most successful farmers of the town. For years he was a member of the official board of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was interested in all good works.

Abner Woodin's father, Samuel, Jr., don of Dr. Samuel Woodin, was killed with his brother Silas, July 5, 1779, by the British when they invaded New Haven. Then a lad of less than 8, Abner was sent to the city to bring home his father's horse. He spent his life on his father's farm--lying on the ridge just east of West Rock. He was a wheelwright.
