Anne W. Hoy, 90
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Anne Wallerius Hoy died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Feb. 1, 2018, in Phoenix, Ariz.
Anne's life of 90 years included 68 years with her loving husband, David F. Hoy III, from 1950.
Together they put down roots and raised a family in Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Connecticut. They spent later years in Minnesota, Arizona and Maine.
Wherever they went, Anne viewed her surroundings as an artist; family trips included museums, zoos, parks, beaches and libraries. She so enjoyed the back porch or patio for storytelling and neighborhood gatherings.
Born in Chicago, Ill., to Swedish parents Vivian and John Wallerius, Anne was an active student at Glenbard West High School; she graduated from Monticello Junior College in 1946 and soon became a buyer for Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company. Anne later worked for a set of publishing firms. She served her communities as a school board member, was president of the Glen Ellyn Friends of the Library, supported the Arizona League of Women Voters and volunteered with the Island Institute of Rockland, Maine. Anne was especially proud of earning a B.A. in anthropology from the University of Arizona in 1982.
She is survived by her husband David Fletcher Hoy, III, of Camden, Maine; son Michael Hoy and his wife Augusta Alsop of Solon; grandsons Michael and Augustus; son John Hoy and his wife Mary Sauer of Freeport; grandson Darrell and his wife Michele; granddaughter Shelly; daughter Susan and her husband Rick Sparrold of Tucson, granddaughter Cassandra Sparrold and her husband Crisben Shute; great-granddaughter Alex; granddaughter Lexie and her husband Steven Prust; great-grandson Tristan; cousin Carin Söderland; sister-in-law Jo Wallerius and brother-in-law Jerry Goulet. Anne was predeceased by her sister Sandra Goulet and brother John Wallerius, Jr.
In her memory, family appreciates donations to: smoking-cessation programs, Arizona Burn Foundation, League of Women Voters, University of Arizona School of Anthropology, or the Sweden non-profit "Trinity Karlstad" (Trinity Skolprojektet i Nepal).
