Township of Westerlo
About 1920, a Masonic lodge was located here, with the following persons as members: Col. James Sackett, Sylvester Ford, George Prindle, and Nicholas Lapaugh.
p. 924:
Van Leuven's Corners, in the northwest part of the township, is a small hamlet on the old Delaware turnpike road and in former times had a church, taverns, mills, tannery and other business enterprises. All of those are now abandoned . . . William Beardsley, John Preston and James Sackett were tavern keepers . . . .
James Sackett was a colonel in the war of 1812, a prominent businessman and a mason. He was buried from the church at Van Leuven's Corners, July, 1821, with military and mason honors, and buried in the Snyder cemetery. The place was first called "Sackett's Corners," then "Preston's Corners," and now Van Leuven's Corners.
p. 925:
The First Baptist Church of Westerloo . . . . The presiding officers, on the 31st of January [1820] certified the charter before James Sackett, Commissioner, and caused the same to be recorded in the clerk's office of the City and County of Albany, in the book of church patents, the 22d of February, 1820.
p. 926:
There are several burial grounds in different parts of the town, which contain the remains of the early settlers, and the one at Van Leuven's corners is noted for the burial of Co. James Sackett.
p. 928:
Soldiers

Prosser, Nathan Clark, Abram Hagerman, James and Abram Hawley, Benjamin Stanton, Caleb Tompkins, Carpenter Bishop, Marin Lambert. There is no record of the soldiers of the rebellion.

Howell & Tenney indicates that Sackett was a founding member of a masonic lodge in the Township of Westerlo in 1820, owned a tavern in Van Leuven's Corners, and was a town supervisor who died in office.
