Jesse Evans Dies From Injuries in Crash on Highway
Jesse A, Evans, 58, for 20 years a Monon railroad brakeman, died at 11:35 o?clock Friday night at the Home hospital of injuries suffered in a head-on collision between his automobile and a truck on U.S. 52, six miles southeast of Lafayette Friday morning. His chest was crushed and he had multiple fractures, and also suffered from shock. Evans was en route to his home three miles northeast of Stockwell on route 5 when the accident occurred. He was the father of 10 children.
Born in Putnam county Sept. 20, 1883, he was a son of William H. and Ida (Sackett) Evans. He married Cressie Iola Goss, who survives, together with his mother, who lives at Cloverdale, and the following children: Mrs. Wanda Colliver, Battle Ground; August Evans, Martinsville; Lowell Evans, Otterbein; Mrs. Ruth Faust, Lafayette; Mrs. Helen Metzger, route 4; June Evans, Detroit; Harry, Jesse, jr., Bobby and Billy, all at home; also a brother, June Evans, Cloverdale; and six sisters: Mrs. Jean Raikes, Indianapolis; Mrs. Edith Hill, San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Julia Coffman, Greencastle; Mrs. Pearl McCullough, Fowler; Mrs. Mannie Furr, Cloverdale, and Mrs. Jewell Spangler, Linton.
The family formerly lived in Lafayette, having moved to the farm near Stockwell the first of the year. Mr. Evans was planning to retire soon.
Services at 2 p.m. Monday from Mill Grove Methodist church, near Cloverdale, of which he was a member; burial in Cloverdale cemetery. Friends may call at the residence after 2 p.m. Sunday. Baker funeral directors, Dayton, in charge.

MRS. CRESSIE EVANS
Mrs. Cressie Iola Evans, 80, formerly of 1010 S. 1st St., died Saturday night in Lesley Nursing Home, Buck Creek. She had been a patient there since February, but death was unexpected.
Mrs. Evans was born in Owen County, where she was married in 1906 to Jesse A. Evans, who died in 1942. A member of the Milgrove United Methodist Church in Owen County, she moved to Lafayette in 1937.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Jauanita Colliver of Rt 12 and Mrs. Ruth Lavon Foust and Mrs. Helen P. Metzger, both of Lafayette; and seven sons, August G. of Martinsville, William Lowell of Greencastle, J. Harding of West Point, Henry L. of Tampa, Fla., Jesse A. Jr. of Rt. 1, Monrovia, Robert G. of Lafayette and Billy W. of Rt. 12.

Ruth Lavon Foust, 102, of Lafayette, passed away at 3:49 pm, Sunday, August 13, 2017 at St. Mary?s Healthcare.
Born October 30, 1914 in Plainfield, IN, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Alonzo Evans and Cressie Iola (Goss) Evans and a graduate of Cloverdale High School.
Her marriage was to Dale Foust on November 12, 1937 in Lafayette. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1991.
Ruth was a homemaker, raising three children. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her three children, Larry Foust (wife: Carolyn) of Lafayette, Sandra Bramer (husband: Jim) of West Lafayette, and Lavon Hasselbring (husband: John) of Springfield, IL; one brother, J.A. ?Jessie? Evans of Eminence, IN; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death with her parents and husband are two sisters and seven brothers.
Funeral service will be at 2 pm, Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Hippensteel Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Dr. Ernie D. Elder Jr. officiating. Burial to follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com
