William "Bill" Pond, 86, of Bemidji, MN, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota.
Memorial Services will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN with Rev. Alan R. Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a private family interment at a later date.
He was born in Crary, ND on February 6, 1923, the son of Harold S. and Marion (Seeley) Pond. After the bank holiday, the family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1935. Bill attended Winship grade school and then Central High School graduating in 1941. On December 7, 1941, he was a student at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music as a trumpet student of Frank Simon.
After enlisting, Bill served as a Navy aviator and drone pilot for four years during the World War II.
He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1949, and later began teaching band at several small towns north of Grand Forks. Later he worked under Leo Haesle in the instrumental department of the Grand Forks public schools ending his career at Central High School. Bill also assisted in the Grand Forks Symphony and directed the City Band for many years both as trumpet soloist and later conductor. He also directed the Shrine Circus Band and Ninth District Legion Band.
Bill received a Masters degree in Music in 1958 from the Vandercook College of Music in Chicago. Bill was a member of the Shrine and was a Past Potentate.
Bill and Joyce Lester were married June 7, 1947 in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Winna (Jeremy) Althiser; three grandsons, Will, Matt and Brock; and a sister, Becky Boyum Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Bethie; 3 brothers, Harold "Pud" S. Pond, Jr. (Ruth), Sheldon "Pete" S. Pond (Betty) and James "Jim" Pond (Juanita).
Memorials can be directed to the Grand Forks Public Schools Band Department.

Joyce Elizabeth Pond, 88, of Bemidji, MN died Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. She was born on April 1, 1929, in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Marion and Agnes (Knudson) Lester. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School, then attended the University of North Dakota, where she received a degree in teaching. She married William Pond on June 7, 1947. She taught music in public schools for 26 years. She was a flutist her whole life and was active in many community music organizations.
She is survived by her: grandsons Matthan, Will, and Brock Althiser, all of Bemidji, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughters Bethie Pond, and Winnifred Althiser.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND, under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Condolences may be left at ceasefuneralhome.com.

Winnifred Marian Althiser, 63, of Bemidji, MN died Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm, on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
She was born on April 23, 1954, in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of William and Joyce (Lester) Pond. She was raised and educated in Grand Forks. After graduating from High School she attended Luther College, and later the University of Iowa. She became a Police Officer with the Muscatine, IA Police Department, and served over 10 years. She returned to school at the University of Iowa and received a Master's Degree in Social Work.
She helped children and families as a licensed Social Worker in Bemidji, MN until her retirement in 2005. She married Jeremy Althiser on June 11, 1999, in Bemidji, MN. She had a large group of friends online, and was an avid BMW motorcycle enthusiast, who enjoyed socializing with various BMW clubs.
She is survived by her: Sons, William Althiser, Brock Althiser, Matthan Althiser, Husband, Jeremy Althiser, Mother, Joyce Pond, All of Bemidji She was preceded in death by her son David LeMar, father Bill Pond, and sister Elizabeth Pond.
