(1891-1968)
https://sackettfamily.info/g123/p123363.htm
Father Francis Thomas "Frank" Sackett (1863-1937)
Mother Louisa Brown (c 1866-)
William George Sackett, son of Francis Thomas "Frank" Sackett and Louisa Brown, was born in Maidstone, Kent, on 23 November 1891. He died aged 76 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, on 2 February 1968. He married in Camberwell, London, on 25 May 1917, Amy Violet Sides, daughter of ___ Sides and ___ Bossom. Amy was born in Lewisham, Kent, on 8 December 1896 and died aged 85 in Portsmouth on 2 January 1982.
William attended Jessop Road School, Lambeth, London, from ages three to seven, being admitted on 7 October 1895 and leaving on 30 June 1900. The family was living at 25 Milkwood Road in 1895. William's guardian in 1899 was recorded as another William Sackett, of 24 Kemmerton Road, probably the boy's uncle.
In 1911 William was living at 97 Park Road, West Dulwich, London, in the household of his parents Frank and Louisa, and was recorded in the census as William Sackett, a railway clerk, aged 19 and born in Maidstone.
William served in the British Army during the First World War as a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery. He was awarded the Victory Medal and British Medal in recognition of active service overseas. He served in France from 13 December 1915 and was awarded the 1915 Star.
At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, William and Amy were living at 253 Malpas Road, Deptford, London. William was a railway clerk, Amy a drapery dealer. Two other residents whose names are withheld in the record were presumably their children, Maurice and Elsie.
William's wife Amy joined the British Post Office, London Telecommunications Region, in July 1951 as a clerical assistant.
