Elias B. Baker was born on 20 March 1838 in Madison County, New York, son of Jeremiah Baker and Martha McCumber.
On 8 August 1850, Elias lived with his parents and siblings- Annet, Henry, Sarah, Sophia, Norton, Francis, and Martha in Concord, Erie County, New York. He had attended school in the last year and his father was a farmer.
On 3 August 1860, Elias and Catherine Baker, lived in Colden, Erie County, New York. He was working as a shoemaker. He owned $30 in real estate and $40 in personal property.
He enlisted as a Private in Company D of the 116th New York Infantry on 19 August 1862 in Colden, New York. He was mustered out on 8 June 1865 in Washington, D.C.
Elias was married to Lydia O. Lewis. Lydia was born circa 1847 in New York.
On 24 August 1870, Elias and Lydia and their son William lived in Traverse City, having moved there sometime since the birth of William in May. Elias worked as a stonemason while Lydia was keeping house. They owned $700 in real estate and $200 in personal property.
On 16 June 1880, Elias and Lydia lived on Lake Avenue in Traverse City with six children- William, Mabel, Pearl, John, Elias, and Everett. Elias worked as a plasterer while Lydia was keeping house. The three oldest children had attended school in the last year.
Lydia died from malarial fever on 27 May 1889 in Garfield township.
Elias was married on 9 June 1894 in Traverse City to Catharine (Sluhr)Swoboda. William J. Vogel, a clergyman, conducted the ceremony, which was witnessed by Lewis Baker and Josie Storick/Stonick. Catherine was born circa 1829 in Germany, daughter of Andrus Sluhr and Katherine Lenzer.
He applied for a Civil War invalid's pension on 22 March 1895.
Elias died on 15 March 1897 in Garfield township from consumption. After his death, on 16 April 1897, Hugh Prouty applied for a minor's pension.
Elias and Lydia were buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
Elias and Lydia (Lewis) Baker were the parents of at least nine children:

iii. PEARL JESSE BAKER was born on 13 March 1874 in Traverse City.

vi. EMMET BAKER was born on 12 February 1880 in Traverse City.
vii. WALTER C. BAKER was born on 6 April 1882 in Garfield township.
viii. ALICE ESTELLA BAKER was born on 7 March 1886 in Garfield township.
ix. GEORGIA E. BAKER was born on 16 July 1888 in Garfield township.
