Funeral services are tentatively set for Saturday morning in Mountain View for John D. Loeffler, 47, of 12295 Woodside Dr., Saratoga, first officer on a charter DC8 jetliner that crashed Tuesday on takeoff from Kennedy Airport, New York.
Hayes Funeral Home, Mountain View, is in charge of arrangements.

Loeffler, 12, a student at Brookview School. Adult sons are Thomas E. Loeffler of Mountain View, John Michael Loeffler, 23 of Santa Clara and Charles W. Loeffler, 22, of San Jose. The chartered plane from Oakland, flying to Dulles International airport in Washington, D.C., to pick up 250 youthful transatlantic passengers, crashed and burned killing all 11 crewmen including seven stewardesses, all from the Bay Area. The pilot, Joseph May, was from Walnut Creek.
Witnesses said the plane?s tail apparently touched the runway on takeoff and that the aircraft crashed from about 200 feet.
A native of Detroit, Mich., Loeffler served in World War II and was a Navy pilot for 23 years. He worked for World Airways prior to joining Trans International, a charter non-scheduled carrier, He came to Saratoga from Hawaii in 1957.
