FUNERAL OF THE WIFE OF THE LATE STEPHEN WHITNEY.
Mrs. Harriet Whitney, wife of the late Stephen Whitney, died on last Sunday afternoon and was yesterday buried from her recent residence, No. 7 Bowling-green. A large number of the family friends were in attendance. Rev. Drs. Potts and Ferris officiated, and made brief addresses eulogistic of the Christian virtues and unobtrusive benevolence of the deceased. The coffin which enclosed the remains was placed in the hallway of the house. On it were two silver plates, each bearing the inscription: "Harriet Whitney, born 1st September, 1782; died 13th May, 1860; aged 77 years, 8 months, 11 days." After the services the remains were conveyed to Greenwood and deposited in the family vault, the following gentlemen officiating as pall bearers: Wm. B. Crosby, Joseph D. Beers, Benjamin Swan, Henry Young, Benjamin Aymar, Thomas Suffern, Egbert Benson and W.S. Herriman. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Whitney's health has rapidly declined. She leaves one son, Wm. Whitney, and three daughters -Mrs. Phoenix, widow of the late J. Phillips Phoenix; Mrs. John Dore, and Mrs. Frederick (sic -Ferdinand) Suydam. Her will has not been made public.
